Master of Communication Management Convocation – McMaster 2010

Today was a very special day, as the first six graduates of the Master of Communication Management program at McMaster University crossed the stage to graduate.

Hooded one-by-one, by my colleague, the extraordinary Dr Terry Flynn, Founder and Director of the MCM Program, the “pathfinder” class of the program all received their diplomas and took their places in McMaster’s long, honourable and storied history as a great centre of research and learning.

These are the names of the first, “pathfinder” class:

  • Heath Appelbaum
  • Brittany Cadence
  • Heather Ferguson
  • Heather Pullen
  • Don Smith
  • Natalia Villegas

I was very proud to have taught all of them but particularly proud to have worked with Heather Pullen and Brittany Cadence on editing the special communications management issue of the McMaster Journal of Communication.

I was also hugely proud to have worked with Don Smith, Director of Operations, Public Affairs Branch, Canada Revenue Agency, as his capstone project supervisor. He did an excellent, and very influential content analysis of media coverage of Canada Revenue Agency. I believe he has now presented his results over 12 times, in various professional venues. Extraordinary.

This ad ran in the Hill Times, celebrating his accomplishment. Congrats, Don – you deserve it!
